Sarah Wigglesworth hit the headlines in 2004 with her designs for her own eco, ’straw bale’ house. She talks to Peter Murray about how the building has evolved, the complexities of improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings and her work on the Kingston upon Thames Mini-Holland project.

The description of it ['straw bale' house] as a place where multiple uses easily coexist: living, working, gardening, bicycle-mending, hen-keeping, pond-dipping, which seems particularly relevant for post-pandemic living

On issues of diversity and inclusion 'a theme we hold dear' Sarah says

I’ve been working hard on creating a culture where people feel comfortable to bring their ideas to the table so that we are greater than the sum of our parts.
