At Canary Wharf Group, Sophie is responsible for developing and delivering the overarching strategy to implement environmental and socially responsible practices within the groups aim to transform urban spaces into extraordinary environments. The ESG strategy contains focus areas identified to target the greatest positive impact. For environmental, these include climate change, driving circularity and creating space for nature. To support the creation of thriving communities, the strategy focuses on education, employment and skills and wellbeing.
Outside of CWG, Sophie is the Chair of the British Property Federation (BPF) Sustainability Committee, helping to lead, co-ordinate and act as a voice for the BPF’s sustainability work. This includes activities relating to energy security and efficiency, decarbonising buildings, ensuring buildings are resilient, and protecting and restoring nature.
Previously, Sophie led sustainability across the UK for the regional and specialist businesses within Balfour Beatty, the UK’s largest contractor and has also spent time in the retail industry where she led programmes to deliver sustainable outcomes in the Far East. In July 2022, Sophie was included in BISNOW’s prestigious Women Leading Real Estate List, recognising the work that she has done in putting sustainability at the heart of the Canary Wharf community. Sophie firmly believes the private sector has a key role to play in responding to the related global challenges in a way which creates healthy and prosperous places to live, work, and thrive.
