Bedir Bekar
Versed in projects ranging from new to historic buildings, residential to workplace, bridges to sculptures, Bedir is a chartered structural engineer, designer, and maker with all these typologies in his portfolio. He has over a decade of experience in the structural engineering profession, as well as teaching at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL – where his focus is on bringing projects into the fabrication space. Whether through manual woodworking and metalworking or using digital fabrication methods such as robotics and CNC, he is fluent in design-to-production workflows and firmly believes the making process is fundamental to developing early design ideas.

Bedir brings a ‘design for manufacture’ approach to all his projects, along with a skillset that blends constructability with a collaborative mindset – working closely with tradespeople and local communities. His current practice centres on digitally fabricated housing typologies: from working with BlokBuild to develop a pioneering off-site system of mass-customisable, structurally tuned OSB cassettes that can be configured into various housing types for local authorities and private builders, to supporting emerging system builders in the natural-building space - Bedir has extensive experience in helping to unlock dignified architecture in the overlooked spaces of our cities. He is also experienced in natural building techniques using home-grown timber, straw, clay, light-earth, and cement-free foundations – collaborating with architects to develop regenerative house types that can be deployed across the UK by both professional teams and self-builders.

He is also the UK’s foremost skatepark construction engineer, having built over 25 skateparks. He is frequently consulted by community groups and local authorities to oversee the restoration of historic sites such as Stockwell Skatepark, Kennington Bowl, and the Hackney Bumps community project in London.
