With an MSc and PhD in fire safety engineering, and author of articles on fire safety in recognised academic and industry publications, I am expressing interest in your expert panel focused on technical competency.
I was a key contributor to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s experimental investigations at the University of Edinburgh, working as part of the team conducting groundbreaking research on façade fire performance. My expertise includes modelling fire dynamics, material performance under fire, research into traveling fires scenarios, fire spread on external walls systems, and the fire safety of battery storage systems.
For the British Standards Institution, I sit on panels that both oversee the development of standards (FSH/14) and actively draft fire safety engineering standards (BS 994 / BS 9999).
Helping professionals in the built environment to improve their knowledge and awareness of fire safety is a core passion of mine. I am a Visiting Lecturer at Birmingham City University, President of the UK’s Society of Fire Protection Engineers Chapter (from 1 November) and created and deliver a Principal Designer Fire Safety Course for construction professionals who are not fire safety specialists - this helps attendees navigate the Building Safety Act and understand their responsibilities.
