Great Estates: Models for Modern Placemaking

Book Launch

Wednesday 28 February 2024
18:30 - 20:30

As part of the NLA Lates series, join us for the book launch of our major new publication on the planning, design and management of London’s great estates.
This evening book launch celebrates the launch of Great Estates: Models for Modern Placemaking’, produced in partnership with RIBA Books. An update to the original NLA publication in 2013, ten years later the book delves into the principles of placemaking, partnership, and long-term ownership and management that London’s great estates have developed from centuries of expertise.

The long-term approach to regeneration and management allows London’s great estates to evolve, develop and reinvent themselves in response to changing demands and uncertain economic climates. What are the wider lessons of estate principles for city makers, both in the UK and overseas?

How can London’s historical and new estates support London’s recovery through the reconsideration of workspaces, culture and public spaces? How can the great estates work together to support a resilient London for all? The book presents this discussion, surrounding contemporary debates around the future resilience of London.
