Industrial & Logistics: keeping cities running

Half-day conference

Monday 05 June 2023
09:00 - 12:00

Following the NLA report, this half-day conference will explore local and international strategies to successfully integrate industry into the urban fabric.
NLA research paper 'Can London deliver for all?' looks at the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the industrial and logistics sector. From co-location to multi-level, the report presents alternative responses to pressing issues.

The industrial and logistics sector is a key component of the infrastructure that keeps London running and is increasingly becoming a more integral part of discussions about the future of our city. According to economic consultancy Frontier’s 2022 report, ‘The Impact of Logistics in the UK’, logistics is one of the country’s fastest-growing industries, having doubled in size since 2012. In a context of rising land values, and demand for housing, how can we meet the growing demand for industrial land? Are co-location and mixed-use always possible? Could industries and manufactures be good neighbours?

This half-day conference will continue to examine the key findings from the report and go further by inviting international cities into the discussion. We will first hear about local strategies to address the land shortage, and how to deliver more industrial and logistics spaces in London. We will than look at international case studies that examine how to integrate industry into the urban fabric and what lessons can be learned.
