London's Airports: should they expand?

Talk

Tuesday 13 May 2025
18:15 - 20:15

Join us for our latest NLA Evening Talk regarding the recent proposals to expand several of London’s main airports.
The Labour government’s growth strategy involves the expansion of some of the UK’s main airports, with the Chancellor backing plans for a third runway at Heathrow and the UK’s official aviation regulator announcing support for the expansion of Gatwick’s north runway to commercial air traffic.

However, how will this impact the rest of London, and how might the planned growth of the UK aviation industry affect the environmental targets set by our Mayor?

Our debate will explore the fundamental question of whether we should grow or restrain the development of our airports and aviation industry, with both arguments presented by a panel of thought leaders in the built environment industry.

This event is part of the programme for RePower London, our recent report calling for a holistic and place-based approach to addressing London’s growing infrastructure needs and supporting the energy transition. Find the full report here
