The Derby London City

Built

The Derby London City, Curio Collection by Hilton, is a 234-key lifestyle hotel and Rycrofte's Restaurant, Coffeehouse and Bar by Dominus and is managed by Dominus Hospitality.

The Derby London City, Curio Collection by Hilton, is one of the Square Mile's most talkedabout new openings— a 234-key lifestyle hotel at 5–10 Great Tower Street in the City of London that has blended contemporary design while paying tribute to the building and area's heritage.

Delivered by Dominus working with Studio Moren, Axiom, AvroKO and brand identity studio Aylott + Van Tromp, The Derby opened in April 2026 exceeding expectations. Rather than drawing on the City's modern financial reputation, the brand is rooted in the older traditions of craftsmanship and civic duty. The hotel's name references the bowler hat — the uniform of 19th-century City financiers — while its leopard marque draws on the historic hallmark of quality. Hidden historical references are threaded through every layer of the guest experience, from the Treasury Wall arrival ritual at reception to a leopard marque concealed inside guest room tea and coffeecups.

Interiors by AvroKO pay homage to four forgotten City figures connected to the surrounding area: Rycrofte's Restaurant is inspired by Sir John Rycrofte, sergeant of the larder to King Henry VII, and overlooks his believed burial plot in the neighbouring church gardens. The ground floor activates a previously closed-off corner site with a restaurant, coffeehouse and bar, contributing to the City of London Corporation's ambition for a vibrant seven-day Square Mile.

The hotel employs more than 60 people from 18 nationalities. Partnership with the Springboard Charity has already brought disadvantaged Londoners into hospitality careers, with a pre-opening recruitment day attracting over 160 attendees and resulting in 10 hires.

Early trading has exceeded expectations: 100% occupancy achieved on multiple nights in month one, a TripAdvisor ranking of #7 of 1,192 London hotels, and over 100 pieces of media coverage reaching 1.5 million readers.

“The Derby is an outstanding exemplar of a carefully contrived sustainable retrofit scheme repurposing a tired and challenging office building into a new hotel use with dynamic ground floor uses contributing to a vibrant 7-Day City in line with the City of London’s Destination City initiative and Sustainability planning policies.” - Gwyn Richards, Planning and Development Director, City of London Corporation
