Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements were introduced by the Environment Act 2021, to enhance natural habitats and support wildlife resilience in response to climate change. Mandated for all major Town and Country Planning Act developments since February 2024, and in April 2024 for small sites, BNG requires a minimum 10% gain in biodiversity value, ensuring habitats are left in a better state post-development.

How is BNG requirements impacting the built environment sector? What are the challenges and opportunities for local planning authorities, developers, and landlords? How to measure the biodiversity value of a development? This requires a collaborative effort between all sectors, including ecologists.

In this webinar we hear from public and private sectors, exploring the BNG guidance and requirements, the impact on planning and new development and the shared responsibilities across sectors.
