Where other sustainability initiatives and groups have focussed on legislation, certification and metrics, the SIG (special interest group) hopes to inspire the built environment community, evidenced through a series of real-life experiences and case studies. Often faced with barriers to adoption and a sentiment of reverting to business as usual, the visioning document will allow the reader to imagine a world that has transitioned away from the risks associated with a linear economy, towards a full adoption of circular economy principles. By being able to imagine that world (and one that doesn’t) the industry will take a step forward to realisation.

During the presentation members of the SIG will present several of the case studies that will inform the visioning piece. To date, the collated case studies demonstrate a wide-ranging adoption of the circular economy, across multiple sectors and typologies. Centred around the six principles of circularity - building for disassembly, building in layers, building for longevity, building for flexibility, designing out waste and building with re-used materials, the case studies help demonstrate how those drivers have influenced the outcome of the scheme.

The final visioning document will be inspiring and uplifting, rooted in real projects, demonstrating a tangible pathway to Circular Economy adoption.

In the webinar you will hear four case studies which are followed up by a discussion around the six pillars of circularity.
