Join us for a tour of the final phase of Greenwich Millennium Village, designed by Jestico + Whiles in partnership with Peter Barber Architects and Studio 54 Architecture.
This site is the culmination of a 25-year master plan begun by Ralph Erskine, providing 1,746 new homes arranged around streets and squares, recalling Erskine’s playful evolutionary tradition of the local architectural language.
Located at the southeast of London’s Greenwich Peninsula, the site is nestled between the rumble of historic industrial wharfs and a swarm of cranes constructing new high-rise developments. The team developed designs true to the spirit and intentions of Erskine’s vision, but with a different innovative twist in every plot; the resulting spaces are recognisable, unique and filled with variety. The designs are the result of a collaborative discussion about the ways in which people live and inhabit the city, as well as how these continue to change and evolve.
The human-scale scheme focuses strongly on street life; the compression and expansion of space provided using traditional patterns of squares, avenues and mews provides intrigue and facilitates different kinds of interaction between people and their environment. Urban squares within the network of streets offer places for children to play and for social event to take place. Pedestrians and cyclists are given priority. This approach imbues the development with a strong sense of community, creating a place in which people will want to live through the different stages of their lives.
Please note the capacity for this event is very limited and therefore tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with a maximum of 2 per organisation.
