It barely needs saying that most Londoners will visit one of the city’s hospitals at some point. Many of the buildings themselves are ageing monuments that stand like great guardians of the people in some of the most prominent parts of our city, reminding us that London is a place for everyone.

These are places of comfort when we are at our most vulnerable. We should take stock of them and throw our support behind the buildings, institutions, staff and community. We have all recently been acutely aware of the network of over 200 NHS Trust hospitals across London, many stretched to impossible limits.

Our hospitals embody the best of what humans can achieve — to provide world-class care for all who need it.
