We are delighted to share that Peter Murray OBE, co-founder of the NLA, has been awarded the prestigious Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The award, one of the highest recognitions in the global built environment community, celebrates individuals whose contributions have significantly advanced tall buildings and the urban environment—enhancing cities and the lives of their inhabitants.

Peter is recognised for his remarkable career spanning architecture, journalism, curation, and urban advocacy. From co-founding NLA as a hub for knowledge-sharing and debate about London and cities worldwide, to editing the RIBA Journal and Building Design, chairing the London Society, and founding the London Festival of Architecture, Peter has been at the heart of shaping how we understand, plan, and experience our cities.

He has served as design advisor to two Mayors of London and has been instrumental in making the urban realm more accessible and engaging for both professionals and the public. In 2014, his contributions were recognised with an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II for “leadership in arts, architecture, city planning, design, publishing and charity.”

Reflecting on the award, Peter said:
“Cities are collective achievements—ongoing conversations between planners, architects, engineers and the communities they serve. I’ve always believed in the power of dialogue to shape better urban futures, and I’m honoured that CTBUH recognises the role of communication, advocacy and collaboration in advancing the quality of tall and dense cities.”

Peter will also deliver the closing keynote at the CTBUH 2025 International Conference, From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making, taking place from 6–9 October in Toronto, Canada. His talk will explore the importance of public engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration in the evolution of dense, vertical cities.

This recognition not only celebrates Peter’s exceptional achievements but also reflects NLA’s mission—to bring people together to shape better cities.
