What can London teach the world about creating better cities, and where can it learn from others?

In this conversation, Lord Foster explores the international talent, green spaces and history of planning that have shaped London. Reflecting on projects including Trafalgar Square and the Millennium Bridge, he considers how infrastructure, public space and connectivity can improve everyday life.

The discussion examines the role of civic leadership, the importance of bringing built environment expertise into political decision-making, and the value of breaking down barriers between professions. Foster also shares his perspective on artificial intelligence, educating future city leaders and the enthusiasm of younger generations that keeps him optimistic.

Presented this year as a lifetime achievement honour, the NLA Londoner of the Year award recognises Foster’s sustained contribution to London’s built environment, his work on cities worldwide and his role in establishing the capital as a global centre for architecture.
